ITHS is a voluntary, non-profit organization, with the following goals:

1. Promotion of basic and clinical research in the areas of tinnitus, hyperacusis, and other closely related topics

2. The exchange of information among its members

3.  The promotion of education of both professional, associate and student members, as well as members of the general public, who are affiliates of the Society

The main activities of ITHS involve

  -            Organization of annual meetings associated with other professional meetings (such as ARO, AAA, or EFAS), and alternating between continents.  These meetings will be arranged in addition to the International Tinnitus Symposium organized every three years.

-            Facilitation of the publication of papers presented during the scientific meetings, as a supplement, or by special sections in existing peer-reviewed journals.

-            Producing a regular ITHS Newsletter with most recent information, overview articles, and special section for affiliates, written in a style accessible to all our readers.

-            Establishing a tinnitus and hyperacusis bulletin board on the Internet, accessible to members only, where the Newsletter will also be available.  The bulletin board will act as a source of information about the present status of tinnitus / hyperacusis research and details of other related activities.

Rules governing membership are presently at the final stage of preparation for voting by founding members.   The details and description of requirements for full, associate, student  members and affiliates will be available from the beginning of year 2000.
